Issuing Digital Prescriptions

A prescription should take seconds to write and be impossible to misread. The Digital Prescription in Veetz combines a professional document editor with clinical intelligence: dictate the treatment by voice, pull medications from your library, and let the system calculate the exact dose from the patient's weight.

This guide covers issuing the prescription. To build your medication library first, see Setting Up Medications.

Where Prescriptions Live

Open the patient's record and go to the Medical History tab. The Prescriptions panel lists every prescription with its Veterinarian, Date, content, and Medications, ready to edit or review.

To create one, you have two paths:

  • Open the Save button's dropdown menu at the top of the record and choose Add prescription.
  • Or, while writing an anamnesis, click Create medical prescription in the editor toolbar — no need to leave the consultation flow.

The Prescription Editor

The prescription opens in a full document editor with formatting tools and shortcuts designed for clinical documents:

  • Add patient details header: Inserts the patient's identification block at the top of the document.
  • Add veterinarian signature: Inserts your professional signature block.
  • Insert today: Stamps the current date.
  • Document templates: Create a new document, save the current one as a template, or open an existing template — your standard prescription layouts, reusable in one click.
  • Layout tools: Column blocks and page breaks for well-organized printed documents.

Dictate by Voice

Click the microphone button at the bottom center of the screen and speak the treatment — for example, "one tablet every twelve hours for ten days". Veetz transcribes your words straight into the prescription text. Less typing, more attention to the patient.

Add Medications with Automatic Dose Calculation

Click Add Medication to prescribe from your library:

  • Medication: Pick it from the library — or register a new one on the spot, without closing the prescription.
  • Dosage Per Weight Unit and Dosage Unit (mg, mL, or your own unit).
  • Interval and Frequency Type — for example, every 8 hours.
  • End Date (required) and Total Doses.
  • Instructions (required): Clear guidance for the owner — "1 tablet every 4 hours".

As you fill in the dosage, Veetz shows the Total Dose per Application, calculated automatically from the patient's most recent recorded weight. No mental math, no unit slips — especially valuable for very small or very large patients.

Keep the weight current

The dose calculation uses the patient's latest weight record. Weighing at every visit — see Weight, Feeding & Clinical Notes — keeps every prescription accurate.

Finishing

  1. Click Prescribe. The prescription is saved to the patient's medical history.
  2. Use Print document in the editor toolbar to print the formatted prescription for the owner.
Controlled medications

Medications flagged as controlled in your library carry a visual warning badge, reminding the team to follow the special prescription and record-keeping rules that apply.
