Organizing Your Products: Categories, Manufacturers, and Product Lines
A catalog with hundreds of items is only useful if you can find things in it. Veetz gives you three complementary ways to organize your products: Categories group items by what they are, Manufacturers record who makes them, and Product Lines connect related products from the same brand — including their variations of size, flavor, or presentation.
All three live in the Product Management menu, and the values you register here appear as options when creating or editing catalog items.
Categories
Categories answer the question "what kind of item is this?" — Vaccines, Medications, Pet Food, Surgical Supplies, Grooming Services, and so on.
- Click on Product Management in the left-hand sidebar.
- Select Categories.
- Click + ADD NEW to create a category, or click an existing one to edit it.
The form is intentionally simple:
- Name: The category name as it will appear throughout Veetz. Required.
- Description: An optional note describing what belongs in this category — helpful when several team members register products.
A short list of broad categories is easier to use than dozens of hyper-specific ones. Start broad; split a category only when it becomes too crowded.
Manufacturers
Manufacturers record the companies that produce your items — not to be confused with Suppliers, the companies you buy from. The same product may be manufactured by one company and supplied by another.
- Click on Product Management in the left-hand sidebar.
- Select Manufacturers.
- Click + ADD NEW, or click an existing manufacturer to edit it.
The fields:
- Name: The manufacturer's official name. Required.
- Trade Name: The commercial or brand name, if different from the official one.
- Country Code: The two-letter country code of the manufacturer (e.g.,
BR,US). - Website and Contact Email: Handy references for product questions, recalls, and technical information.
- Active: Turn this off to hide a manufacturer from new registrations without losing its history.
Product Lines
A product line groups related products from a manufacturer — for example, a complete line of dermatological shampoos or a range of premium cat food. Lines also let you define variant attributes: the characteristics that distinguish one variation of a product from another, such as size, flavor, or concentration.
- Click on Product Management in the left-hand sidebar.
- Select Product Lines.
- Click + ADD NEW, or click an existing line to edit it.
Product Line Information
- Name: The name of the line. Required.
- Manufacturer: Search and select the company that produces this line.
- Description: Optional details about the line.
- Active: Deactivate lines you no longer work with, keeping their history.
Variant Attributes
After saving the line, the Variant Attributes section becomes available. Here you define which characteristics the products of this line can vary by:
- Attribute Key: The name of the characteristic (e.g.,
size, flavor). - Attribute Type: The kind of value this attribute accepts:
- string: Free text (e.g., a scent name).
- number: A numeric value (e.g., volume in ml).
- enum: A fixed list of options you define.
- Allowed Values: For enum attributes only — type the accepted options separated by commas (e.g.,
small, medium, large). - Required: Turn this on if every product variant in the line must have this attribute filled in.
Use the edit and delete buttons in the attributes grid to adjust them at any time.
Line: "NutriPet Premium Dog Food" by manufacturer "NutriPet". Attributes: flavor (enum: chicken, beef, salmon — required) and weight (number — required). Each bag you register in the catalog then declares its flavor and weight, and your catalog stays consistent and easy to search.
