The Cash Register Session
Cash is the payment method that most needs discipline: it lives in a drawer, changes hands all day, and at closing time someone has to answer "does the drawer match?". Veetz organizes this with the cash session: each operator opens their own session, every cash movement is recorded, and closing shows exactly how the expected amount was calculated.
Navigating to the Cash Register
- On the left-hand sidebar, click Sales.
- Click Cash register.
The screen header offers Print summary and Refresh at any moment.
Opening the Register
With no session open, the screen shows No open cash session and asks for one number:
- Opening amount: the change fund you are placing in the drawer — the banknotes and coins you start the day with.
Click Open cash register. From this moment on, cash receipts are accepted and linked to your session.
The session belongs to the operator who opened it. It records who opened, when, and in which currency.
Reading the Open Session
While the session is open, the screen shows:
- Session opened at and Currency;
- Opening amount: the change fund;
- Expected cash: how much should be in the drawer right now;
- Cash received: cash payments confirmed during the session;
- Withdrawals: cash taken out of the drawer;
- Confirmed by payment method: a summary of everything received in the session, method by method (cash, credit card, debit card, Pix, and so on) — useful to conference the card machine against Veetz.
Supplies and Withdrawals
Money moves in and out of the drawer for reasons other than sales — more change is needed, or cash is sent to the safe. Record each movement with:
- Amount: greater than zero (otherwise Veetz asks: "Enter an amount greater than zero.");
- Reason: always required ("Enter the reason for the cash movement.");
- Supply to put money in, or Withdrawal to take money out.
A withdrawal asks for an extra confirmation — "Register a cash withdrawal of..." — because money is leaving the drawer.
"Change for the afternoon", "Cash to the safe — end of shift". At closing time, and in any later review, these reasons are what explain the numbers.
Closing the Register
The Close cash register panel shows the counting memory — every number that forms the expected amount:
- Expected cash = Opening amount + Cash received + Supplies − Withdrawals − Cash refunded;
- Declared closing amount: type here how much you actually counted in the drawer;
- Closing difference: the gap between declared and expected — positive (drawer over) or negative (drawer short).
Click Close cash register and confirm. Veetz asks: "Close this cash session? Pending financial operations must be synchronized first."
The register only closes while connected to the internet, and only when there are no pending financial operations from the session waiting to synchronize. If a receipt made offline has not synchronized yet, wait for it — the message "There are pending receipts. Wait for completion before closing the register." indicates exactly that. See Working Offline.
Use Print summary before and after closing to keep a paper record of the session — handy for the envelope that goes to the safe.
Next Steps
- Receiving a Payment — cash receipts, amount tendered, and change.
- Customer Credit (Store Wallet) — cash deposits and withdrawals also pass through the session.
- Exploring Payments and Daily Totals — totals by payment method for any period.
