Native Event Types and Their Rules
Every appointment in the Scheduler has an event type. The type gives the appointment its color on the calendar, a sensible default duration, and — most importantly — the rules about who and what must be linked to it. Veetz ships with five native types that cover the routine of a veterinary practice.
Who should read this: anyone who creates appointments; especially useful for training new receptionists.
The Five Native Types at a Glance
| Type | Typical use | Requires | Default duration | Occupies the agenda? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Surgery | Spay, dental cleaning, orthopedic procedure | Professional and patient | 2 hours | Always |
| Vaccine return | Booster dose reminder for a patient | Patient (no professional) | 30 minutes | Yes |
| Exam delivery | Handing results to the owner | Patient or client | 15 minutes | Yes |
| Grooming | Bath and grooming services | — | 1 hour | Yes |
| General event | Meetings, administrative or personal commitments | — | 30 minutes | No (free by default) |
Default duration and busy setting are only starting points — when you pick the type, the dialog fills them in, and you can adjust the times or the Show as busy switch before saving (with one exception below).
Surgery
The strictest type, as it should be:
- A Professional and a Patient are both required.
- A surgery always occupies the agenda — it is marked busy no matter what, so nothing can be double-booked on top of it.
- Default duration: 2 hours. Adjust to the real procedure length.
Example: "Spay surgery — Luna", Dr. Ana, Tuesday 08:00–10:30.
Vaccine return
The patient must come back for a booster — but any available professional can apply it:
- A Patient is required.
- A Professional must not be set: the return belongs to the organization's agenda. If you select this type with a professional chosen, the professional field is cleared automatically.
- Default duration: 30 minutes.
The vaccination history shortcut creates this type with the patient already filled in.
Example: "V10 booster — Thor", organization agenda, 21 days after the first dose.
Exam delivery
A short slot to hand results and explain next steps:
- A Patient or a Client is required — one of the two is enough.
- Default duration: 15 minutes.
Example: "Deliver blood work — Mel (owner: Carlos)", Friday 17:00.
Grooming
The bath-and-grooming service of the organization:
- No required links — add the patient and client when you want the record connected.
- Default duration: 1 hour, marked busy.
Example: "Full grooming — Bidu", Saturday 10:00.
General event
The flexible type for everything else — staff meetings, supplier visits, personal commitments:
- No required links.
- Default duration: 30 minutes, and it is free by default (does not occupy the agenda). Turn on Show as busy if it should block the time.
- Combine with Private appointment for personal entries that colleagues should see only as "Busy".
Example: "Team meeting", Monday 18:00, busy; or "Pick up kids", private.
Business Rules Worth Knowing
- The native types are standard across the system and cannot be renamed or deleted.
- When the requirement of a type is not met (a surgery without a patient, for example), saving is refused with a message naming what is missing — fill the field and save again.
- Colors on the calendar follow the event type, so a color legend emerges naturally: at a glance, a red block is a surgery, a green one a vaccine return.
Common Problems
| Message or symptom | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Save refused asking for professional/patient | The type's required links are not filled | Complete the Professional/Patient/Client fields |
| Professional field cleared by itself | You picked Vaccine return, which belongs to the organization agenda | Leave it empty — any professional can attend the return |
| Surgery ignoring the busy switch | Surgeries always occupy the agenda | Working as designed |
