Working With and Without Internet
Clinic internet drops at the worst moments — usually with a client at the counter. The Scheduler is built for that: the calendar keeps working during temporary connection losses, and your changes are sent automatically when the connection returns.
Who should read this: everyone, but especially reception teams in locations with unstable connections.
What Keeps Working Offline
While the connection is down you can still:
- View the calendar — appointments you have already seen remain available, in all views and filters.
- Create appointments — they appear on the calendar immediately.
- Edit, move, and cancel appointments — the change shows right away.
These changes are saved on your device and sent automatically once the connection returns. You don't need to redo anything, and you can keep attending the counter normally.
What Needs a Live Connection
Some actions verify the shared state of an agenda at the moment you act — a stale answer could double-book a colleague. These require internet:
- Agenda settings — working hours, availability blocks, and Open agenda / Close agenda. See Configuring a Professional Agenda.
- Find available times — suggestions are only trustworthy when computed live. See Finding Available Times.
If one of these fails while you are offline, it is not lost work — just try again after reconnecting.
After the Connection Returns
Pending changes are sent automatically. Two habits keep things tidy:
- Glance at the calendar after reconnecting. If a change you made offline conflicted with something a colleague booked in the meantime (the same slot, for example), the conflicting change is reported and the calendar shows the current shared state — rebook if needed.
- Don't repeat an action just because it hasn't "arrived" yet. Creating the same appointment twice while the first is still on its way produces duplicates. Make the change once and let it sync.
Practical Scenarios
- The internet drops during check-in. Book the return normally; it appears on the calendar and syncs later. ✅
- You need to open a new vet's agenda while offline. This needs a connection — configure it when back online. ⏳
- You cancelled an appointment offline and the client sees it "still there" from home. The cancellation reaches the shared calendar when your connection returns; give it a moment. ✅
Common Problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Agenda settings won't open or save | These operations need a live connection | Reconnect and try again |
| Availability search fails | Same as above | Reconnect and search again |
| An offline change seems missing on another device | It syncs when your device reconnects | Reconnect the device where the change was made |
| A duplicated appointment appears | The same action was repeated while syncing | Cancel the duplicate |
