Creating a Sale at the Point of Sale
The Point of Sale is the fastest way to register a sale in Veetz. It was designed for the counter of a veterinary clinic or pet shop: search, add, review, done — even if the client is in a hurry and the internet is not cooperating.
Before You Begin
- Your products and services must be registered in the catalog with a sale price. See Managing Catalog Items.
- If the sale will be linked to an animal, the client and the patient should already be registered.
- You need access to the Sales menu of your workspace.
Opening the Point of Sale
From the main dashboard:
- Click on Sales in the left-hand sidebar.
- Select Point of Sale.
The point of sale opens in its own full-screen workspace, showing your name as the operator and your organization at the top. Use Go back to home when you want to return to the main dashboard.
The screen has two panels:
- On the left, Open accounts and the Products and services catalog search.
- On the right, the Sale summary — the cart the client would see.
Step by Step
- Click New sale to open a new account. The account appears under Current account and its status badge shows Open. If you are continuing an account someone already opened, pick it in Select an open account instead.
- (Optional) In the Client field, select the person responsible. The field says it all: it is Optional for counter sales.
- (Optional) In the Patient field, select the animal, when the sale is tied to an appointment or treatment. Do this before adding items — the field is locked after the first item.
- In the search box, type a name, code, SKU, or barcode and press the search button. The results appear as cards with the price.
- Click the Add to sale button on the item card. If the product has more than one presentation, the button reads Choose presentation and opens a window to pick the exact variant.
- If the product moves stock, Veetz asks how — consume or reserve — and, when required, which storage location to use. See Products, Services, Prices and Stock Behavior.
- Adjust Quantity and Unit price directly on the item, or click Discount to apply one. Price changes and discounts ask for a reason — it becomes part of the sale's history.
- Review the Sale summary: each line shows its Line total, and the footer shows Subtotal, Discount, and Total.
- Click Save to keep the account open, or open the arrow next to it and choose Save and close to finish. Save and add new saves and starts the next sale immediately — handy on a busy counter.
Expected Result
The sale is saved with a number and appears in Explore sales. If you kept it open, it remains listed in Open accounts so anyone on the team can continue it. If you closed it, the status badge changes to Closed and the sale becomes read-only.
Rules Worth Knowing
- Client and patient are optional in a counter sale — but once items exist, the patient can no longer be changed on that sale.
- One sale serves at most one patient. Two animals means two sales. See Customer, Patient and Sale Context.
- Products and services behave differently: products can consume or reserve stock; services and procedures are executed by someone and never touch stock by themselves.
- An empty sale is not a normal sale. Add at least one item before completing an account — a zero-total account is a sign something was skipped.
- Closing is commercial, not financial. Completing the sale does not record a payment. Charging the client is handled separately, in the payments area.
The point of sale protects against accidental double-clicks when adding items. If the screen is processing, wait for it to respond instead of clicking again — the item will not be added twice.
The point of sale keeps working without internet. Your sale is saved on the device and Veetz synchronizes it automatically when the connection returns. Details in Offline Use, Synchronization and Troubleshooting.
Common Problems
- "No items found" when searching: Try another name, code, SKU, or barcode. If the item truly doesn't exist, it needs to be registered in the catalog first.
- The add button does nothing: The current account may be closed or cancelled — check the status badge. Items can only be added to an Open account.
- An item shows no price: Veetz warns that the item does not have a sale price configured. Update the catalog item and search again.
- The Patient field is greyed out: The sale already has items. To change the patient, remove the items first — or start a separate sale.
