Products, Services, Prices and Stock Behavior
Selling a bag of food is not the same as selling a bath. One leaves your shelf; the other occupies your groomer's morning. Veetz treats them differently on purpose, and this guide explains exactly what happens to prices and stock when each kind of item enters a sale.
Before You Begin
- Items must exist in the catalog with a sale price configured.
- Products that control stock need storage locations and balances registered — see Understanding Your Inventory.
Finding the Right Item
In the Products and services panel of the point of sale, search by name, code, SKU, or barcode. Each result card shows:
- An icon that tells products and services apart at a glance.
- The name and reference of the item.
- The price — or From followed by the lowest price, when the product has more than one presentation.
If the card button reads Add to sale, one click adds the item. If it reads Choose presentation, the product has variants (sizes, flavors, volumes): a window opens for you to pick the exact presentation, each with its own price, and confirm with Select presentation.
Quantity, Price and Discount
Every item added to the sale shows editable fields:
- Quantity: Type or step the amount. Fractions are accepted for items sold by weight or volume.
- Unit price: You can adjust it, and Veetz asks for a Reason for price change — the reason is recorded with the sale.
- Discount: Click the Discount button to open the adjustment window. Choose the Discount type — Percentage or a fixed amount — enter the value, fill in the Reason for discount, and click Apply.
The item recalculates its Line total instantly, and the sale footer updates Subtotal, Discount, and Total.
Amounts are always shown in the currency of the sale itself. What changes with your browser language is only the formatting (decimal separators), never the currency.
The Three Stock Policies, in Plain Words
When a product that controls stock is added, Veetz asks how this sale should affect the balance. The window explains: "Choose how this product affects stock. This choice is recorded with the sale item." The three behaviors are:
- Without moving stock: Nothing happens to any balance. This is the natural behavior of services and procedures — a consultation does not live on a shelf. Some items, like fees, also use it.
- Consume stock: The quantity is deducted as part of completing the sale. Use it for what the client takes now: the medication sold at the counter, the food bag leaving today.
- Reserve stock: The quantity is committed to this sale and stops being available for any other sale, without leaving stock yet. Use it for what the client will pick up later — the special-order food arriving Thursday. The reservation is settled when the sale completes.
When consuming or reserving, the same window asks you to select a storage location — which shelf, room, or warehouse the quantity comes from.
If the product stays in the store after the sale is agreed, reserve it. That is what prevents two attendants from promising the last unit to two different clients. To see all reservations in one place, visit Managing Stock Reservations.
Reading the Stock Situation of a Sale
Each item in the cart shows its Stock policy. In the sale details screen, a Stock card summarizes the situation for the whole sale. When everything is fine it needs no attention; when something could not be completed — for example, insufficient balance at the chosen location — the sale is flagged as needing attention.
A stock warning is not an error you can ignore: it means the physical world and the sale disagree. Check the balance at the storage location, register the missing entry or choose another location, and then complete the sale. Do not close the sale hoping it will resolve itself.
Common Problems
- "This item does not have a sale price configured": The catalog item needs a price before it can be sold. The same applies per presentation: "The variants of this item do not have a sale price configured."
- A discount is refused: Discounts respect your permissions. If you cannot apply one, someone with the proper permission must do it.
- Wrong storage location chosen: Remove the item and add it again choosing the correct location, while the sale is still open.
